My Approach

Hi- My name is Adrienne Skarin, and I am licensed professional counselor in the state of Missouri. Clients I work with typically notice decrease in anxiety, decrease in people-pleasing urges, increase in ability to manage stress, and develop more secure attachment in relationships. Clients I work with learn how to trust their emotions again, or maybe for the first time, and they can communicate with themselves and others more effectively, and in a compassionate way. I regularly validate emotions and experiences. You are the expert on you, and I am here to guide you to what is already there. I offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), and I utilize telehealth sessions to give you easier access to therapy. In my 10+ years of working in the mental health field, I have become confident in my therapy approach. I view humans through a stress and attachment focused lens. I help clients improve emotion regulation, relationship patterns, and confidence. I use a combination of Emotion Regulation skill use, Attachment Style approach, EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing), Gestalt, and some CBT. Clients I work with often have a decreased stress response, decreased people pleasing, feel more confident, have healthier relationships, and feel safe to be themselves. Why is mental health counseling important? Counseling provides a safe space to process thoughts, feelings and life experiences, and understand us better. It helps us learn more effective ways to cope with life stressors, have healthier relationships, and overall decrease anxiety and stress. We all deserve to feel safe and confident in our day-to-day lives. Our stress responses and life experiences can get in the way of that. My goal is to help you build skills to feel safe to be truly you.
